  2. As someone who has been in business since 2014, I have never jumped on this trend because that’s what it is a funny you’re talking audience and still been successful. My audience as your claim to be is across-the-board my customers are from the age of 18-70. The demographics is from lower class to upper class, men and women equally. Are not worried about them target audience and you don’t have to either.

    I have been trying so, so, so hard to get the Mrs to see things from this angle. She's dabbling in an eCommerce business for her presson nails and its been a bit of a struggle. I'm beyond certain the lack of focus on finding her target audience is a major contributor not just to her struggles, but other in the industry.

    It's kind of weird. So many in industry are saying the market is saturated because they only see eachother posting on social media. They have the mentality that they should support eachother which is GREAT! But the way algorithms work these days, they end up in this weird bubble where their social media feeds just consist of all of their counterparts selling similar products. They like, comment, save to support and cheer on their sisters in the struggle which is again is great, but those actions just end up signaling the algorithm to elevate posts like that to the top of their feed. Eventually, they start to feel like the only see social media posts they see are from their "competition", view the market as saturated which starts this kind of downward spiral of not wanting to engage online.

    This isn't always a problem. I look at the ASMR community on YT as an example where this works perfectly! ASMR artists support other ASMR artists in their content, they collab, they send their viewers to each others channels and there doesn't seem to be a downside. The difference is, an ASMR artist doubles as a creator and a consumer. Its not really the case with presson nails. Anyone confident enough in themselves to venture into selling online is likely capable of doing their own set and highly unlikely to buy from another presson nail artist.

    In short, they are not eachothers target audience.

    Some identify this and simply adapt to their target audience. They pivot to creating somthing that benefits those in the industry itself – new products, tutorials, etc. My wife doesn't want to do that though, English is her second language which introduces its own challenges when communicating online. And honestly, I'm pretty sure she doesn't have to. I know my opinion is biased but she's a talented nail artist and her work speaks for itself – it just needs to speak to the right people.

    I feel like I'm walking the line between "helping" and "mansplaining". I came up with what I consider to be a pretty good target audience, niched down to account for her positioning on pricing, differentiating her from others in her circles. I recommended she not stop interacting with others providing similar services all together but just cut it down to like, 25% of her time interacting on line. Focus the rest on interacting with people in her target audience. There's a challenge there that I'm missing though, I'm guessing because I'm not that familiar with the industry. It may be time to do a little hastag research myself and figure out who these lovely ladies – and guys in some cases – follow.
